Yesterday I
participated in a conference organized by the European Commission, entitled “
Preparedness, Alert and Response. Lessons Learned in Europe from Last
Cross – Border Health Infectious Threats”.
We excellent
know classic risk factors as hypertension, obesity, smoking or
hypercholesterolemia. We read hundreds of pages in medical textbooks and
listened to dozens of lectures on the subject.
This is a
classic approach to disease risk factors known for a long time. Their knowledge
has been systematized through a series of studies, beginning with the
Framingham Heart Study.
In
Framingham is already observed and investigated third generation residents.
Do they
suffer as well as residents of other places worldwide, just like their
grandparents?
To the
classic risk factors we should add a lot new - like unknown previous pathogens,
antibiotic resistance, chemical industry invasion into our lives.
Let's add
yet such factors as globalization, population migration, political
correctness and social media - yes, they also influence the course of the
disease.
So old
and known, new and unknown risk factors are summarized and
influence on our health, on public health.
The
knowledge of new factors is being collected, but is very difficult
collect knowledge how influence on health thousands chemical substances,
plastics, genetic modified food...
